About the Parsha
In Balak we read about the prophet Bil’am (Balaam) trying unsuccessfully to curse Bnei Yisrael (the People of Israel). While attempting to curse them, Bil’am instead showers praise and blessings upon them. On one attempt, as he looks upon the encampment, he says “מה טבו אהליך יעקב משכנתיך ישראל” – “How goodly are your tents, Jacob, your dwelling places, Israel.”
About the Dessert
These tents are made of vanilla cake, baked in a loaf pan (“English cake” pan).
When cooled, cut lengthwise on a diagonal, creating a long triangular prism shape.
Cover the cake with chocolate ganache (recipe here).
When hardened, slice 2-inch slices to create the tent shape.
