About the Parsha
In Beshalach we read about the splitting of the Red Sea. G-d miraculously split the water so that Bnei Yisrael (the Israelites) could safely cross on dry land.
About the Dessert
This is a chocolate cake baked in a loaf pan (or “English cake” pan).
The walls of water are made of sugar cookie dough (recipe here) shaped as follows:
Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out 2 squares of dough, roughly measuring the same as the length of the loaf cake.
Using thick aluminum foil, very loosely roll 2 pieces into 2 cylinder-shaped units.
Place each square of dough on a paper-lined cookie sheet.
Place a foil cylinder under one half of each square, so that the dough drapes over it.
Bake according to the recipe instructions.
Decorate using white and blue royal icing (recipe here).
The “people” are represented with Mike & Ike candies.
We added fish crackers to the water as well.
