About the Parsha
In Chayei Sarah we read about the death of Sarah. Avraham (Abraham) finds a plot of land in which to bury her. He negotiates with the owner, Ephron, to acquire the land, and ends up paying a large amount of money (400 silver shekels) to buy the land.
About the Dessert
These “coin cookies” were made of chocolate chip cookies (without the chocolate chips).
The coins were made using piped circles of melted chocolate (white and dark). When hardened, numbers were piped on top using melted chocolate. The coins were sprinkled with (edible) silver powder. They were glued to the tops of the cookies using a dollop of melted chocolate.
Alternately, you can use store-bought chocolate coins (the ones they sell around Channuka time). Open one side of the wrapper. Lightly melt the open chocolate (with a lighter) and adhere to the cookie.
