About the Parsha
In Re’eh Moshe (Moses) commands Bnei Yisrael (the Children of Israel) to destroy all idols and their accessories that they will find when they enter the Land of Israel.
About the Dessert
These “idols” are made using melted white and dark chocolate.
Print various pictures of statues.
Melt white and dark chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler.
Place melted chocolate into piping bags or small baggies.
Snip a tiny corner off each baggie.
Place the page of statues on a flat surface. Put a piece of parchment paper on top.
Use the chocolate to pipe the shape of each idol on the parchment paper.
Place in the refrigerator to harden.
To make 2-tone images, use one color of chocolate to pipe the outline (“drawing”) of the statue. Once hardened, use the other color of chocolate to fill in (“color in”) the shape. Allow to harden, the flip over to see the design.
The mallets (to destroy the idols) are made by sticking a pretzel stick into the middle of a marshmallow. This can be glued together using a dot of melted chocolate.
Note: Our guests’ children had a fun time using the mallets to “smash” the idols at dessert time…
