Royal Icing


4 cups powdered sugar
3-4 Tbsp meringue powder
1 Tbsp vanilla extract (clear)
1/4 cup water


Place all ingredients in a bowl except for the water.
Mix the ingredients well.
Gradually add water and mix, scraping the sides of the bowl.
Use more or less water based on the desired consistency of the icing.
Add food coloring as needed.
Ice cookies or cake. Leave for several minutes to harden.

Note: This is great icing to use for decorating sugar cookies.

Note: If using food coloring, gel is best as it does not interfere with the consistency of the icing. If using liquid colors, you may need to add more powdered sugar.
