About the Parsha
In VaEtchanan we read the commandment to love Hashem (G-d) and to study the Torah. We are instructed to write the words of “Shema Yisrael” (“Hear O Israel”) and wrap them in Tefillin (phylacteries) to be worn on one’s arm and one’s forehead, and in Mezuzot to be placed in the doorways of our homes.
About the Dessert
These Mezuzah cookies are made using sugar cookie dough (recipe here).
Break off small handfuls of dough, roll into a small log. Place on a cookie sheet and bake according to the recipe instructions.
Decorate with melted chocolate and any other edible decorations.
Note: The letter ש (shin) is the symbol of G-d’s name, marked on Tefillin boxes and on many Mezuzah cases today.
