About the Parsha
In VaYeshev we read about Yaakov (Jacob) making a special striped garment for his favorite son, Yosef (Joseph).
About the Dessert
These are sugar cookies (recipe here) used in many of my Parsha desserts.
For the striped coats, divide the raw dough into several small balls.
Leaving 2 balls uncolored, add a drop of gel food coloring to each ball and knead it in until fully blended.
Roll out an uncolored ball of dough as thinly as possible.
Roll out one colored ball to the same thickness, and place on top of the first.
Continue rolling out each color, finally placing the last uncolored dough on top.
Carefully slice 1/2-inch slices and lay them flat, so that the stripes show.
Cut out “shirt” shapes, or cut smaller “sleeves” from the dough and pinch them together at the sides of each rectangle.
Bake as indicated in the recipe.
